Salt Plains Storage, LLC, located about 180 kilometers (110 miles) north of Oklahoma City, is ideally located in a region where demand for natural gas as a primary fuel for heating and power generation is growing. Salt Plains ties into the Southern Star Central Gas (SSCP) and Oneok Gas Transportation (OGT) pipelines, which serve both regional and the mid-continent gas markets. Rocky Mountain gas delivered to the mid-continent region gets re-distributed to various pipelines such as SSCP that have access to Salt Plains Storage.
This facility can store 13 billion cubic feet of natural gas, inject a maximum of 115 million cubic feet per day and withdraw a maximum of 150 million cubic feet per day, and offers both long and short-term firm storage services. The Salt Plains gas storage facility takes its name from the nearby Salt Plains National Wildlife Refuge, a natural Oklahoma habitat featuring salt flats that provide refuge to a variety of waterfowl.
